12th Annual Salford ESPEN-endorsed Workshop on Acute and Chronic Intestinal Failure

April 2nd, 2024

Salford’s Intestinal Failure (IF) team ran their 12th consecutive annual ESPEN-supported and endorsed IF Conference on Friday 22 and Saturday 23 March 2024.

Thirty-seven multi-disciplinary delegates, that included nurses, physicians, surgeons, dietitians, pharmacists came to Salford for 2-days from the USA, Slovenia, Poland, Netherlands, Sweden, Canada, Estonia, Sri Lanka, Belgium, Denmark and the UK.

The event included case discussions, ward rounds and practical, hands-on workshops. The Workshop received excellent feedback again, with attendees highlighting that the lessons learned will help them develop services in their own countries and also help them build long-term networks in Intestinal Failure.

The 12th Annual Salford ESPEN-endorsed Workshop on Acute and Chronic Intestinal Failure will be held in Salford (UK) on 22nd & 23rd March 2024.
The in-person course will be held over 2 days at the Humphrey Booth lecture theatre, Salford Care Organisation, U.K. and is aimed at physicians, surgeons, dietitians, pharmacists, nurses and psychologists with an interest in Intestinal Failure. Delegates will experience first-hand how a dedicated Intestinal Failure Unit functions and the roles of the multidisciplinary team. Previous courses have been very well received, particularly the practical demonstrations of central venous catheter care and management, surgical-medical interaction, case-based discussions and patient-centred ward rounds. Places are limited due the interactive nature of the programme & preference is given to ESPEN members.

14th Annual ESPEN Salford Intestinal Failure Workshop 2026

 

The Salford National Intestinal Failure Reference Centre hosted their 14^th annual Intestinal Failure Workshop on the 6 & 7^th of March this year.

Physicians, surgeons, nurses, dietitians and pharmacists attended from countries including Sweden, Brazil, Portugal, Estonia, UK, Finland, Lithuania, Latvia, Slovenia, Denmark, Netherlands, USA, Thailand & Sri Lanka.

 

The workshop was hands-on again with ward rounds and practical sessions, with excellent feedback again from all.

The 28th ESPEN Course in Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism will be held in Tallinn, Estonia from November 5-10, 2023.

ESPEN Course will provide a practical and broad insight in the field of nutrition care and help and enhance the skills of participants with provoking interdisciplinary case-discussions. Physicians- and other medical professionals from various specialties working in the field of clinical nutrition (nutritionists, dietitians, pharmacists) can apply to participate in the course, ESPEN members have priority.

31st ESPEN Basic Course in Clinical Nutrition

We invite you to register for the 31st ESPEN Basic Course in Clinical Nutrition, taking place 8–13 November 2026 in Bucharest, Romania.

An intensive 6-day residential course aligned with the ESPEN LLL curriculum, combining evidence-based lectures, interactive workshops and real interdisciplinary case discussions led by ESPEN-certified experts.

Participants will gain a practical foundation in clinical nutrition, including nutritional assessment, diagnosis and therapy, with a focus on enteral, parenteral and oral nutrition support. The programme includes hands-on EN/PN and body composition workshops, as well as clinical cases covering gastroenterology, oncology, surgery, ICU and other key areas.

The course also offers the opportunity to complete three ESPEN LLL Diploma modules — Enteral Nutrition (EN), Parenteral Nutrition (PN) and Perioperative Nutrition — with formal tests, while earning EACCME CME credits and connecting with clinical nutrition specialists from across Europe.

ESPEN is pleased to announce the return of the Advanced Course in Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism, taking place in Nice, France, from April 12 to 18.

This course is designed for young nutrition professionals who wish to deepen their knowledge, strengthen their clinical skills, and engage in direct discussions with leading experts in clinical nutrition and metabolism.

Who is it intended for?

22 ESPEN members under the age of 35 who are already enrolled in a nutrition programme.

Thank you for being part of the ESPEN Malnutrition Awareness Week 2024!

This year's Malnutrition Awareness Week was a remarkable success! With participation from many more countries than in previous years, this event is a real international initiative.

We continue working to raise awareness and educate communities about the critical issue of disease-related malnutrition. Every year we try to work closely with non-nutrition Societies to spread the awareness among other communities of HCPs. ESPEN provides tools to run the Malnutrition Awareness week in each country, free of costs, with webinars, educational material and social media campaign making it easier for everyone to engage and spread the message.

Check out our MAW social media campaign, which this year garnered incredible attention, thus amplifying the conversation around disease-related malnutrition.
